Andrew Holness, prime minister of Jamaica, took to Twitter to congratulate Ms. Brown, who gained the designation after the April death of Emma Morano, an Italian woman and last known person born in the 1800’s.
Brown, lovingly referred to by friends and family as “Aunt V,” is reportedly still physically active and mentally sharp. She accredits her long life to her faithful observance of the Old Testament Bible scripture found in Exodus 20:12: “Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.”
The community elder, who remains strongly committed to her Baptist faith, told her local paper, the Jamaica Gleaner, “I love the Church.”
According to the paper, Brown also attributes her longevity to good genetics and a diet of three eggs a day, two of them raw. “Really and truly, when people ask what me eat and drink to live so long, I say to them that I eat everything, except pork and chicken, and I don’t drink rum and dem tings,” Brown said during that interview.
